About ConsumerLab.com

White Plains, New York, July 31, 2015 — Women looking for relief from hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms often turn to supplements containing estrogen-like isoflavones (from soy or red clover) black cohosh, or creams containing progesterone — but it may be difficult to choose the right one because labels usually don't list amounts of active compounds. ConsumerLab.com recently tested popular menopause products, determined amounts of active compounds, and identified those providing amounts shown to be effective in clinical studies. The results reveal that amounts of active compounds can vary significantly among products. In products with soy, for example, amounts of genistein, an isoflavone thought to be key for reducing hot flashes, ranged from just 0.61 mg to 32.1 mg per recommended daily serving.

The test results and quality ratings appear online in ConsumerLab.com's new Menopause Supplements Review. The report covers 12 products selected by ConsumerLab.com, and four others which passed the same tests in ConsumerLab.com's voluntary Quality Certification Program. Also included are two products similar to one which passed testing but which are sold under different brand names. The report discusses the evidence for soy and red clover isoflavones, black cohosh and progesterone for hot flashes and other symptoms of menopause and which key compounds and doses have been found to be effective in clinical studies. Information about safety, side-effects and potential drug-interactions is also presented.

The following products are included in the report: Bluebonnet Non-GMO Soy Isoflavones, Estroven Maximum Strength, Emerita Progest Body Cream, Nature's Bounty Black Cohosh, Nature's Way Black Cohosh Root, One a Day Menopause Formula, Oona For Menopause, Options Healthy Woman Soy Supplement, Promensil Menopause, Puritan's Pride Black Cohosh, Remifemin Menopause Relief, Rexall Black Cohosh, Solgar Black Cohosh Root Extract Plus, Source Naturals Natural Progesterone Cream, Spring Valley (Walmart) Soy Isoflavones, Swanson Superior Herbs High-Potency Red Clover Extract, Vitamin World Black Cohosh and Whole Foods Soy Isoflavones.
