Kudzu Supplement Recalled for Salmonella Risk

On March 18, 2020, Mountain Rose Herbs issued a recall of all sizes of Organic Kudzu Root Herbal Supplement because recent testing found it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Salmonella is an organism that has been linked to fatal infection in young children, frail or elderly adults, and people with weakened immune systems. In healthy adults, Salmonella can produce fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare cases, Salmonella infection can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

Recalled Mountain Rose Herbs Organic Kudzu Root Herbal Supplement was distributed through retailers and distributors nationwide and in parts of Canada. This product was sold between June 17, 2019, and March 2, 2020 and comes in a clear plastic or poly-woven bag with net weight ranges from 4 ounces to 50 pounds. It can be identified by the following: Consumers who have any of this affected product should not consume it and should return it to the place of purchase for credit or refund or throw it away.

Production of the product has been suspended while the FDA continues its investigation.
