Glucosmamine, chondroitin and MSM are popularly used for treating osteoarthritis -- the most common type of arthritis. But ConsumerLab.com found 4 supplements we reviewed and rated to be contaminated with lead, 2 of which also contained little (6% or less) of their labeled chondroitin. All of the lead-contaminated supplements contained glucosamine, which is derived from shrimp or crab shell and has the potential to contain lead. Our joint health supplements review also found one of the contaminated supplements to fail to break apart properly in disintegration testing. Mislabeling of sodium content was the reason for a fifth supplement to fail the joint health supplement review.
