Green Coffee Bean Supplement Marketer Settles FTC Charges of Deceptive Claims
Duncan claimed his products could cause weight loss of 17 pounds and a 16 percent loss in bodyfat in 12 weeks, without diet or exercise, and that this was supported by a clinical study. However, the company that sponsored this study settled FTC charges that the study was flawed in September 2014, and the study was retracted in October of the same year.
Duncan also made appearances on television shows including The View and Dr. Oz, during which he urged viewers to use online search phrases that his companies used to drive traffic to their sites.
The settlement bars Duncan and his companies from making deceptive claims about the health benefits of any dietary supplement, and requires that future weight-loss claims be supported by at least two well-controlled human clinical studies.
