The Republic of Tea Recalls Turmeric/Ginger Teas Due to Salmonella Risk

On April 29, 2016 The Republic of Tea issued a recall of several Organic Turmeric Ginger teas because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The company was notified by one of its suppliers of the possibility that one lot of its organic ginger ingredient may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Salmonella infection can produce fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
