Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Kratom Powders, Pills and Teas

On February 20, 2018, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) warned consumers not to use kratom in any form because it could be contaminated with Salmonella. The CDC is currently investigating an outbreak of illness caused by Salmonella infection associated with the use of kratom. To date, 28 cases of illness in 20 states have been reported in individuals who have used kratom powders, pills or tea. Eleven people were hospitalized, but no deaths have been reported.
