CBD Oil Recalled, Risk of High Lead Exposure

On May 15, 2020, Summitt Labs issued a recall of one batch of KORE ORGANIC Watermelon CBD Oil Tincture due to contamination with lead. A random sample of this product tested by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services found it to contain lead levels at 4.7 ppm. Subsequent testing from the same batch of product initiated by Summit Labs found lower levels (0.5 ppm). Nevertheless, the product is being recalled based on the original test results.

According to the recall notice, ingestion of KORE ORGANIC Watermelon CBD Oil could result in high lead exposure. Symptoms of acute lead poisoning can include pain, muscle weakness, numbness and tingling, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, metallic taste in the mouth and lack of appetite, headache and dizziness, kidney damage, shock and other symptoms. Exposure to lead, even at low levels, is associated with neurological impairment, and in children, learning disabilities and lower IQ scores. Lead can accumulate in the body over time.

Recalled KORE ORGANIC Watermelon CBD Oil is promoted for anxiety relief, pain reduction, mood enhancement and restful sleep. It was distributed nationwide by wholesalers, including Nirvana Kulture and North East Rally, and by Summitt Labs, as well as in the form of samples distributed at trade shows and by sales personnel. It is packaged in 30 milliliter bottles (which could come in 9 count displays in Kraft paper packaging) and can be identified by the following:
  • Batch #730
  • Lot #K018
  • 30 ml bottle, 15mg 450x
