Goldenseal Recalled Due to Microbial Contamination

On December 4, 2020, WishGarden Herbs, Inc. issued a recall of 14 lots of Cord Care Powder and Goldenseal Powder because they were manufactured using ingredients that were potentially contaminated with the bacterium Cronobacter sakazakii.

Use of contaminated products can cause infections in healthy adults that require antimicrobial or surgical treatment and can result in death for people with weak immune systems and babies.

Recalled products (see images) were distributed nationwide through select practitioners. Both are marketed as drying powders that are applied directly to skin. Cord Care Powder is specifically used for drying umbilical cords. They can be further identified by the following information:

  • Product: Cord Care Powder. Size: 10oz. UPC: 6-56490-24730-4. Lot #s: P227-P235. Expiration: 7/26/18 - 9/1/20
  • Product: Goldenseal Powder. Size: 10oz. UPC: 6-56490-64137-9. Lot #s: P116-P120. Expiration: 7/26/18 - 9/1/20

Consumers who have any of these affected products should not apply them and should mail them to WishGarden Herbs corporate headquarters at 321 South Taylor Ave. Suite 100 Louisville, CO 80027 for a full refund.

A different goldenseal product was recalled in August, 2020 due to Cronobacter sakazakii contamination that lead to the death of an infant.
