Spring & Mulberry Recalls Chocolate Bar Due to Salmonella Risk

On January 12, 2026, Spring & Mulberry of Raleigh, North Carolina, announced a voluntary recall of one lot of its Spring & Mulberry Mint Leaf Date Sweetened Chocolate Bar (72% cacao) due to the potential for the bar to be contaminated with Salmonella.

(See ConsumerLab’s Dark Chocolates, Cocoa & Cacao Powders Review, which includes our tests of products and our Top Picks).

Salmonella is an organism that has been linked to fatal infection in young children, frail or elderly adults, and people with weakened immune systems. In healthy adults, Salmonella can produce fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, Salmonella infection can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis.

The recall includes a single lot of Mint Leaf Date Sweetened Chocolate Bar (2.1 oz), which was sold online and through select retail partners nationwide beginning in September 2025, and can be further identified by the following:

  • Product name: Spring & Mullberry Mint Leaf Date Sweetened Chocolate Bar – 72% Cacao (2.1 oz)
  • Packaging: Teal box with inner flow wrap
  • Lot Number: 025255
  • Use-by Date: March 31, 2027

Consumers should not consume the recalled product.
