Super Greens Supplement Powders Linked to Salmonella Outbreak

On January 14, 2026, the FDA warned consumers not to use Live It Up Super Greens powder (Original and Wild Berry flavors) with expiration dates from 08/2026 to 01/2028, because it has been linked with a multistate outbreak of Salmonella illness.

Illness from Salmonella typically begins 12 to 72 hours after ingestion and may cause diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. Young children, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems are at greater risk for severe infection, which can cause serious, sometimes fatal, illness. In severe cases, infection can also lead to arterial infections, endocarditis, or arthritis.

(Tip: ConsumerLab has tested “greens” supplements for Salmonella as well as additional pathogenic organisms, heavy metals, and pesticides. See the results in CL’s Fruits, Veggies, and Other Greens Supplements Review, which includes its Top Picks among them).

According to the CDC, a total of 45 people have been infected with the strain of Salmonella associated with the outbreak, and 16 of 20 people for whom information is available reported consuming Live It Up Super Greens powder before they became ill. Twelve hospitalizations have been reported, and infections have occurred in 21 states, including Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas.

Live It Up Super Greens powder (Superfoods, Inc, dba Live It Up) contains moringa leaf, along with chlorella, spirulina, wheatgrass, and a variety of other ingredients. It was sold on the company’s website and on sites such as Amazon, eBay, and Walmart.

Consumers should stop using the product immediately and dispose of it. The FDA also advises consumers to carefully clean and sanitize any surfaces or containers that have come into contact with the powder.

In October and November 2025, joint investigations by the FDA and CDC traced Salmonella outbreaks linked to greens supplement powders, such as Sam’s Club Member’s Mark Super Greens and Food to Live Supergreens, to contaminated moringa leaf powder.
