Recalled Tuna Sold at Limited Retailers After Distribution Error
On January 16, 2026, Tri-Union Seafoods warned consumers that limited quantities of Genova Yellowfin Tuna in Olive Oil and Genova Yellowfin Tuna in Extra Virgin Olive Oil with Sea Salt that were recalled in February 2025 due to botulism risk were inadvertently redistributed by a third-party to grocery stores in several states.
(See the original recall and ConsumerLab’s Review of Canned Tuna, Salmon, Sardines & Mackerel, which includes our tests of products and Top Picks.)
The recall was initiated last year due to a manufacturing defect involving “easy-open” pull-tab can lids that could compromise the integrity of the product seal over time, potentially leading to contamination with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium that can cause botulism, a rare but potentially fatal illness.
Consumers should not consume recalled Genova canned tuna, even if the product does not look or smell spoiled.
