Tejocote Supplements Recalled After FDA Finds Toxic Yellow Oleander
On September 21, 2026, Global Mix Inc. recalled Niwali Tejocote Capsules and Niwali Tejocote Pieces after FDA testing determined that the products labeled as tejocote appeared to contain Thevetia peruviana, or yellow oleander.
Yellow oleander contains cardiac glycosides that are highly toxic to people and animals. Consuming yellow oleander can cause serious and potentially fatal effects involving the heart, nervous system, and gastrointestinal tract. Symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, diarrhea, abdominal pain, changes in heart rhythm, and arrhythmias.
The recalled products were sold nationwide through eBay and Everymarket. According to the company, only five units were sold — two bottles of capsules and three bottles of pieces — but the company was unable to identify every purchaser because the online marketplace did not provide customer contact information.

No illnesses or adverse events had been reported to the company as of the recall announcement.
The recall began after the FDA informed the company that laboratory testing of two samples collected on June 19, 2026, showed the products labeled as tejocote were actually toxic yellow oleander. The company stopped distributing the affected products and removed the listings from sale.
Consumers who have Niwali Tejocote Capsules or Niwali Tejocote Pieces should stop using them immediately and should not consume any remaining product. Consumers may return the products to the place of purchase for a refund. Anyone who has consumed the products and has health concerns should contact a healthcare provider.
