ConsumerLab Tests Reveal Best CoQ10 and Ubiquinol Supplements
White Plains, New York, July 31, 2019 — CoQ10 is among the most popular supplements, commonly taken to offset a decline in natural levels of CoQ10 that can occur with the use of statin medications, decrease statin side effects, and increase energy. Supplements may contain CoQ10, or its active form, ubiquinol, and are available in a variety of formulations to improve absorption and bioavailability.

But with so many different products on the market, which CoQ10 supplements provide the best quality and value?

To find out, ConsumerLab recently purchased, tested and compared popular CoQ10 and ubiquinol supplements, including softgels, capsules, gummies, liquids, and a powder, as well as a product for pets. Many high-quality CoQ10 and ubiquinol supplements were identified, but not all products contained the amounts claimed. There were significant differences in dose (30 mg to 400 mg) and cost (from 7 cents to $2.12 per 100 mg of CoQ10). Among the products that were Approved in testing, ConsumerLab selected several as Top Picks for providing high quality CoQ10 or ubiquinol at a good value.

CoQ10 is among the top five most popular supplements in the U.S. among people who use multiple supplements, according to a 2018 survey by ConsumerLab of supplement users. In addition to possibly reducing side effects of statin medications, CoQ10 may helpful in treating congestive heart failure and preventing migraines and may modestly lower cholesterol levels.

The findings are available online in ConsumerLab's new CoQ10 and Ubiquinol Supplements Review, which includes test results and comparisons for 24 products. Eighteen of the products were selected for testing by ConsumerLab and six others underwent the same testing through CL's voluntary Quality Certification Program. Products covered in the report are: 21st Century CoQ-10, Bluebonnet CoQ10, BulkSupplements.com Coenzyme Q10, CVS Health CoQ-10, Doctor's Best High Absorption CoQ10, GNC CoQ-10 400 mg, Healthy Origins Natural Ubiquinol, Igennus VESIsorb Ubiquinol-QH, Jarrow Formulas QH-absorb + PQQ, Kirkland Signature [Costco] CoQ10, Life Extension Super Ubiquinol CoQ10, Member's Mark [Sam's Club] CoQ-10, Metagenics NanoCell-Q, Natural Factors Ubiquinol, Nature's Bounty Co Q-10 200 mg, NOW Ubiquinol CoQH-CF, Nutrilite Heart Health CoQ10, PipingRock.com CoQ-10, Q10 for Pets - Unflavored Pure CoQ10, Q10 Vital, Qunol Mega CoQ10 Ubiquinol, Spring Valley [Walmart] CoQ10 - Natural Flavors, Swanson Q-Gel Mega and USANA Coquinone 30.

The review summarizes the clinical evidence for CoQ10 and ubiquinol supplementation and explains the differences between CoQ10 and ubiquinol, the best way to take them to increase absorption, and the evidence for bioavailability-enhanced formulations. It also discusses dosage, potential side effects, and drug interactions for CoQ10 and ubiquinol.
