About ConsumerLab.com

White Plains, New York, August 2, 2016 — After discovering in January that none of the three pet multivitamins it had purchased and tested contained all of what was listed on the labels, ConsumerLab.com purchased four more pet supplements — hoping to find at least one with a truthful label. The results? Two of the products met label claims. Overall, only 28.6% of pet multivitamins recently purchased by Consumerlab.com have passed testing. This compares to 64.3% of multivitamins for people (18 out of 28).

"There is very little regulatory oversight by the FDA of pet supplements," said Tod Cooperman, M.D., ConsumerLab.com's Founder and President. "Over the years, we have seen problems with joint health supplements for pets, while fish oils and, in recent years, probiotics, have fared better. A pet owner has to choose very carefully when selecting a product for their furry friend." The U.S. market for pet supplements was an estimated $531 million in 2015, according to the market research firm, Packaged Facts.

The most common problem ConsumerLab.com found with supplements for dogs and cats is a lack of the full amount of one or more claimed ingredients. For example, one product contained just 8% of the vitamin A listed, while another contained just 30% of the vitamin C and 24% of the vitamin D listed on the label. One product contained more ingredient than listed -- 71% more calcium.

The test results for pet supplements are included in ConsumerLab.com's large Multivitamin/Multimineral Supplements Review, including, for dogs, Doctors Foster And Smith Multivitamin for Adult Dogs, Pet Naturals of Vermont Daily Best for Dogs, Pet-Tabs Original Formula for Dogs, Pro-Sense Daily Vitamin for Adult Dogs; for cats, 1-800-PetMeds Soft VitaChews for Cats and VetriScience Laboratories Nu Cat; and for dogs and cats, Nature's Logic All Food Fortifier.
