On January 21, 2020, a group of contract manufacturers of dietary supplements issued a recall affecting products sold by over 800 brands that sell the products under their own brand names and labels (see the full list posted by the FDA). The recall affects all lots of dietary supplement products manufactured by ABH Nature's Products, Inc. ABH Nature's Products, ABH Pharma and Stocknutra.com, Inc. (collectively known as ABH) between January 2013 — November 2019.
A review by ConsumerLab of the list of brands affected by the recall suggests that they tend to not to be mainstream brands and include specialty brands providing unusual formulations, such as BioSchwartz and Elysium Health / Basis, about which ConsumerLab has written.
According to the recall notice, consumers should check the list of companies (above) "to determine if they have purchased a recalled product that needs to be returned or destroyed." However, the list appears to provide only the names of supplement companies and brands that purchased products manufactured by ABH, not necessarily the specific products being recalled. ConsumerLab will provide more information about the recalled products if it becomes available.
The notice also states that ABH is contacting distributors of its products by email and is arranging for return of all recalled products.
The court order requires ABH to stop distributing their products and destroy any products still in their possession. The companies are prohibited from manufacturing or distributing supplements until they can certify they are following current good manufacturing practices (cGMPs) for dietary supplements and take other measures outlined in the order.
