On March 26, 2020, the FDA issued a warning letter to Corona-cure.com for selling products with unsupported claims that they can treat coronavirus (COVID-19).
The FDA and FTC emphasized that there are currently no approved treatments for the virus stating: "There currently are no vaccines, pills, potions, lotions, lozenges or over-the-counter products available to treat or cure COVID-19."
The product Corona-Cure Antiseptic Nasal Defense is described as a "proprietary blend of oils and disinfectant" and was promoted with statements such as "Corona-Cure Antiseptic Nasal Defense kills viruses of the Coronaviridae family including the 2019 Novel Coronavirus and SARS at their point of entry into your body" and "Our instant protection nasal spray is designed to protect your vulnerable nasal passages from infection by the 2019 Novel Coronavirus specifically and other viruses in general."
The agencies instructed the companies to send an email to COVID-19-Task-Force-CDER@fda.hhs.gov within 48 hours of reciept of the warning, describing the specific steps they have taken to correct these violations.
