Seller of Blood Sugar, Depression and Sleep Supplements Warned For Making Drug Claims

On October 15, 2012, the FDA issued a warning letter to BioNeurix Corporation after statements found on the company’s website, http://www.pharma-tree.com, were found to promote the dietary supplements Blood Sugar 360, Amoryn, Seredyn, and Mellodyn as drugs.

PharmaTree Blood Sugar 360 contains chromium, alpha lipoic acid, Gymnema sylvestre, ginseng and banaba (Lagerstroemia speciosa). It was promoted to reduce blood sugar levels, regulate insulin sensitivity, and “decrease the chance of glucose-related nerve damage.”

Amoryn contains St. John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum), 5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan), Rhodiola rosa, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, folate, selenium, vitamin D3, zinc and vitamin C. It was promoted for the treatment of depression.

Seredyn contains L-theanine, passion flower extract, valerian extract, niacinamide and magnesium taurinate. It was promoted for the treatment of insomnia and panic attacks.

Mellodyn contains melatonin, valerian root extract, chamomile, passion flower extract, and lemon balm. It was promoted for the treatment of insomnia.
