FDA Warns Consumers Of Three More Sexual Enhancement Supplements Containing Undeclared Drugs

On May 7, 2013, the FDA issued a warning to consumers, urging them not to purchase or use three sexual enhancement products which were found to contain undeclared drugs.

Bullet Proof was promoted for sexual enhancement and was sold on various websites and in retail stores. It contains fennel seed root, ginger root, licorice root, magnesium stearate, saw palmetto and astragalus root powder. FDA laboratory analysis found that it also contains tadalafil, the active ingredient in the the FDA approved prescription drug for erectile dysfunction, Cialis.

Vicerex was promoted for sexual enhancement and was sold on various websites and in retail stores. It contains tongkat ali, horny goat weed, Tribulas terrestris, maca, Ginkgo biloba and Epimedium sagittatum. FDA laboratory analysis found that it also contains tadalafil, the active ingredient in the the FDA approved prescription drug for erectile dysfunction, Cialis.

Lightning ROD was promoted for sexual enhancement and was sold on various websites, including www.lightinrod.com, and in some retail stores. It contains Cnidium monnier, Butea superba, Eurycoma longifolia, Epimedium sagittatum, Ginkgo biloba, Macuna pruriens, wild yam, foti, Achyranthis bidenta, yi mu cao lenoris and black pepper. FDA laboratory analysis found that it also contains hydroxythiohomosildenafil, a chemical analogue of the active ingredient in the FDA approved prescription drug for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, Viagra.

Consumers who have purchased these supplements should discontinue use immediately and contact their healthcare provider if they have experienced any adverse side effects. Consumers and healthcare providers are also encouraged to report any adverse reactions to the FDA's MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting Program.
