Digestive Health Supplement Recalled Due to Salmonella Risk

On April 4, 2014 Swanson Health Products issued a voluntary recall of digestive health supplement Swanson Premium Brand Full Spectrum Cilantro (Coriander), because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Salmonella infection can produce fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

Recalled of Swanson Premium Brand Full Spectrum Cilantro (Coriander) was sold between November 21, 2013, and January 31, 2014, at the Swanson Health Products retail store, and through mail-order and internet sales. It can be identified by the following: Item Number SW1112, Lot Numbers 203921 and 204888, and a manufacturing date of 11/2013.

No illnesses associated with this product have been reported to date.
