FDA Warns Seller of Milk Thistle, Chromium, Joint Supplements & More for Manufacturing Violations

On March 9, 2018, the FDA issued a warning letter to Carol Bond Health Foods following a facility inspection which found a number of the company's products, including DolomiteLipo Fat Fighter, ThistleX, Injuv, and Vinpocentine, to be adulterated because they were prepared, packed, or held under conditions that violate Current Good Manufacturing Practices for dietary supplements.

These violations include failure to establish and follow written procedures for the responsibilities of the quality control operations and failure to collect samples of each lot of packaged and labeled supplement.

In addition, certain statements made about the products on the company's website and on product labels were found to be drug claims. For example, ThistleX was promoted with statements such as "ThistleX is a quadruple antioxidant . . . .[that] interfere[s] with viral proliferation."

Lipo Fat Figher was promoted with statements such as "CHROMIUM PICOLINATE is a patented ingredient, scientifically tested and shown to aid in the reduction of...cholesterol..."

Injuv was promoted with the claim it could "provide arthritis pain relief."

Carol Bond brand Dolomite was promoted with statements such as "calcium is one of the best ways to prevent osteoporosis" and "magnesium...helps regulate blood sugar levels."

Several of the company's products were also found to be misbranded because their labels included drug claims, incorrect information, or were missing information required by federal regulations.
