FDA Warns Pure Plant Essentials for Essential Oil Coronavirus Claims

On April 1, 2020, the FDA issued a warning letter to Health Mastery Systems DBA Pure Plant Essentials for selling products with unsupported claims that they can treat coronavirus (COVID-19).

The company was promoting essential oil products with statements such as "RESEARCH ESSENTIAL OILS RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS — SOOTHING SUPPORT FOR CORONA VIRUS SYMPTOMS — RESPIRATORY FORMULA" and "ESSENTIAL OIL RESPIRATORY FORMULA — Soothing Support for Symptoms like Corona Virus."

The FDA emphasized that there are currently no approved treatments for the virus stating: "For COVID-19, no such study is currently known to exist for the products identified above."

The agency instructed the companies to send an email to within 48 hours of receipt of the warning, describing the specific steps they have taken to correct these violations.
