Injectable Curcumin, CBD Are Not Safe, Warns FDA
On April 9, 2020, the FDA issued a warning letter to BIOTA Biosciences LLC following a review of the company's website, which found statements made about some of the company's, products, including Canabidiol (CBD) Complex, Cannabidiol+Curcumin, and Curcumin Complex to be drug claims.
The products are sold as injectable drugs, which the FDA warned "can pose a serious risk of harm to users because they are delivered directly into the bloodstream and bypass many of the body's natural defenses against toxic ingredients, toxins, or dangerous organisms that can lead to serious and life-threatening conditions such as septicemia or sepsis."
In 2017, a woman died after receiving an IV infusion of turmeric.
The products were promoted with statements such as "BIOTA Biosciences produces and distributes effective all-natural alternatives with no side-effects. Join the growing ranks of pain, oncology, psychiatry, naturopathy healthcare professionals utilizing BIOTA Sterile CBD Vials" and "CBD... and its ability to suppress pain and aid in the detoxification processes has highlighted it as a promising therapeutic for a wide array of disorders such as epilepsy, including many challenging neuropathy conditions."

In addition, several of the products were found to be misbranded because the labels did not provide adequate information on safe use, as required by federal regulations.
