NutraClick to Pay $1.04 Million for Illegally Billing Consumers
On September 22, 2020, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced that NutraClick LLC agreed to pay $1.04 million to settle FTC charges that the company was deceptively selling and billing consumers for supplements and beauty products.
According the FTC's 2016 complaint, NutraClick LLC lured customers with "free samples" of products then illegally began charging them a recurring monthly fee without their consent. The director of the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection stated that "Hiding the true deadline for canceling a free trial offer isn't just bad business — it's illegal."
The settlement specifies that consumers were charged between $29.99 and $79.99 every month depending on the product, and over 70,000 individuals filed complaints about the company. NutraClick sells brands including Force Factor, Peak Life, ProBioSlim, SomnaPure, VolcaNO, and Stages of Beauty on its website and in stores like Walgreens, Walmart, CVS, and GNC. The funds it must pay to the FTC may be used to refund consumers who were harmed by the company's illegal and deceptive billing practices.
