Seller of Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Ashwagandha, and More Warned for COVID-19 Claims
On October 23, 2020, the FDA issued a warning letter to Predator Nutrition for selling the products Elixir, Salidroside, Unbreakable, Vitamin C + Bioflavonoids & Rosehip, Vitamin D3, and Ashwagandha with unsupported claims that they can treat coronavirus (COVID-19).
Products were promoted with statements such as "Vitamin C plays a key role in the production of immune cells and is often used in hospital environments to help support patients' immunity, including being used in China among coronavirus patients," "Berberine is a natural ingredient which has shown... broad antimicrobial action against viruses..." and "Natural Ingredients Used in Treating Covid-19."
The FDA has previously stated: "There currently are no vaccines, pills, potions, lotions, lozenges or other prescription or over-the-counter products available to treat or cure coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)."
The agency instructed the company to send an email to COVID-19-Task-Force-CDER@fda.hhs.gov within 48 hours of receipt of the warning, describing the specific steps it has taken to correct these violations.
