Seller of Essential Oils Warned for COVID-19 Claims

On February 22, 2022, the FDA issued a warning letter to My Natural Treatment following a review of the company’s website and Facebook page, which found statements about the company’s thyme, black seed, eucalyptus, rosemary, and peppermint oil products to be drug claims.

For example, the company promotes these essential oils with statements such as, “The most potent essential oils that you can use to make your own natural antiviral for Covid-19 have a large number of monoterpenes...you can use them independently or, even better, together in a powerful natural antiviral for Covid-19...These Essential Oils Are...Thyme oil, Black seed oil, Eucalyptus oil, Rosemary oil, Peppermint oil” to treat, mitigate, diagnose, or cure COVID-19 in people.

My Natural Treatment also directed consumers to purchase these products through the Amazon associates program in which the company receives commissions by promoting the sale of thyme, black seed, eucalyptus, rosemary, and peppermint oil products.

The agency warned that these are misleading by promoting them as safe and/or effective for the treatment or prevention of COVID-19.

The company must send an email to COVID-19-Task-Force-CDER@fda.hhs.gov within 48 hours of receipt of the warning, describing the specific steps it has taken to correct these violations.
