Lead exposure, even at very low levels, can cause neurological impairment. In children, this may lead to learning disabilities, behavioral problems, and reduced IQ. Adults may experience abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, changes in blood pressure, or kidney and liver dysfunction. Chronic exposure has been linked to damage to the kidneys, liver, and bones.

The recall includes 5,598 units (container code 15.09.2027) of Lucky Foods Cinnamon, distributed in North Carolina, New Jersey, Ohio, New York, Maryland, Florida, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia, and Illinois.

Consumers should stop using the product immediately and dispose of it.

The recall is one of numerous recent recalls and FDA alerts of ground cinnamon found to contain elevated levels of lead.
