Navitas Organic Chia Seeds Recalled Due to Salmonella Risk
On January 23, 2026, Navitas Organics recalled select lots of its Organic Chia Seeds (8 oz) due to possible Salmonella contamination.
(Tip: ConsumerLab has tested chia seeds for Salmonella and other pathogenic organisms, and heavy metals, as well as for nutrient content (including protein and fiber) in our Chia Seed Review, which includes our Top Picks among them.)
Salmonella is an organism that has been linked to fatal infection in young children, frail or elderly adults, and people with weakened immune systems. In healthy adults, Salmonella can produce fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, Salmonella infection can result in the organism entering the bloodstream and causing more severe illnesses, such as arterial infections (e.g., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis.
The recall was initiated following a recall by Navitas Organic’s chia seed supplier. Affected products were distributed nationwide through retail stores, including Whole Foods Market, and online retailers such as Amazon, and can be further identified by the following:
