Great Value Chia Seeds Recalled Due to Salmonella Risk
On May 10, 2024, Natural Sourcing International issued a recall of one lot of Great Value Organic Black Chia Seeds 32 oz. (sold at Walmart) due to the potential presence of Salmonella.
Salmonella is an organism that has been linked to fatal infection in young children, frail or elderly adults, and people with weakened immune systems. In healthy adults, Salmonella can produce fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare cases, Salmonella infection can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

Recalled Great Value Organic Black Chia Seeds (see photos) were distributed to Walmart retail stores nationwide and can be identified by following:

- Expiration date: October 30, 2026
- UPC: 078742300665
Consumers should throw away the recalled chia seeds. Natural Sourcing International will provide a replacement product upon proof of purchase.
