Bottle of Prelief Caplets and Container of Prelief Powder

Answer:

Prelief is promoted to reduce acid from food and drink. Until 2021, it was sold as a dietary supplement to reduce the acidity of foods that can trigger "painful bladder, frequent urination, indigestion, and occasional heartburn." It now is sold as a "medical food" specifically for the dietary management of interstitial cystitis (a condition characterized by pain in the bladder or pelvis and increased urinary urgency or frequency). This change in status allowed the manufacturer of Prelief to make claims about the use of Prelief for managing a medical condition without it being regulated as a drug. (Interestingly, some websites still seem to sell the older, supplement version of Prelief for heartburn and other uses.)

Is there good evidence that Prelief helps with bladder pain from interstitial cystitis or even heartburn?
