Ill Woman in Bed Blowing Nose

Answer:

Although NAC has mucus-thinning properties when directly inhaled, there is little evidence that oral supplementation can reduce the thickness or volume of nasal congestion. More about this is found in the Review of NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine) Supplements.

If you are suffering from nasal congestion due to a cold, taking a zinc lozenge may reduce the duration of nasal discharge and nasal congestion if taken within 24 hours of onset of symptoms.

Certain probiotics have also been shown to reduce the duration of cold symptoms such as a runny nose.

I too have been taking NAC daily for a few years. I haven't needed to use my asthma inhaler nor have I had bronchitis, which had been an unwelcome visitor often in previous years. It’s been a life-changer.

Every time I get a lot of mucus i take NAC and it clears up, but I don't take it consistently.

I started taking N-A-C eight years ago when I had contracted bronchitis. The doctor had never even heard of the substance. I've been taking it daily for 8 years, without a single episode of bronchitis or any other respiratory illness.

THANK YOU!!
No financial interest in this product. Where do you get it?

Oral NAC will clear nasal mucus really well, in my case at least. Maybe studies were done with a small enough dose so it didn't work....I take 2-3 500mg caps only as needed.

...sounds like the "authorities" once again declaring flight an impossibility for anything structured like a bumblebee! As for me-- based on on a nearly recent-11-year history of NEVER getting a cold of flu or long-durational nasal/throat congestion-- NAC COMBINED with Serrapeptase (or its cheaper substitute Aspergillus oryzae/melleus) and Oregano oil will drain and flush things out (expectorate or swallow) completely within a couple opf hours, max! Got allergies on top of that? Add some more Oregano and a shot o' Quercetin....
THIS is what WORKS for me and everyone else who asks me for such advice!! Maybe it's synergy, but let's face it: even the ultra-conservative, supplemental-hostile HOSPITALS all over the country give NAC to any elder-type who stays more than overnight SO THAT (S)HE WON'T GET CONGESTED AND CONTRACT PNEUMONIA!!! For me, that's a "case-closed."

I started to research NAC since finding out that my 87 yr old mother has become severely congested and probably has bronchitis. She refuses to visit a doctor. Dennis, kindly tell me what you would recommend for daily dosages regarding NAC, Serrapeptase and Oregano oil. Any other suggestions for bronchitis greatly appreciated.
