About ConsumerLab.com

WHITE PLAINS, NY — August 20, 2002 — The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and ConsumerLab.com (CL) announced today that nine products have passed ConsumerLab.com's recently launched Athletic Banned Substances Screening Program. ConsumerLab.com tested the products at the request of the USOC. The screening program is the first to comprehensively test products for their overall quality as well as for substances that could cause disqualification of athletes from Olympic competition and other athletic events. The program includes screening for over 50 stimulants, narcotics, anabolic agents, diuretics, masking agents, and beta-blockers.

The first nine products to pass this program are now listed at www.consumerlab.com on CL's new Athletic Banned Substance Screened Products list as well as by product-type within CL's Product Reviews of vitamin, herbal, and other supplements and nutritional products. There are currently over 450 products that have passed ConsumerLab.com's Product Reviews. General findings are available for free on the site. Online subscribers can access complete Product Review listings and additional information.

"This testing helps prevent athletes from inadvertently taking substances that could disqualify them from competition," said Ed Ryan, ATC USOC Director of Sports Medicine. He added, "ConsumerLab.com is providing an important service to athletes who use supplements and to manufacturers that make them." The USOC is notifying coaches and athletes of ConsumerLab.com's web site as a source of potentially useful information on health and nutrition products.

The United States Olympic Committee is based in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The USOC's mission is to lead the world's best National Olympic Committee by helping U.S. Olympic athletes achieve sustained competitive excellence while inspiring all Americans and preserving the Olympic ideal.
