About ConsumerLab.com

White Plains, New York, July 22, 2015 — DHEA is a controversial hormone supplement touted for anti-aging effects — but what can it really do? ConsumerLab.com reviewed the evidence and purchased many popular brands of DHEA to test their quality. The findings? The products selected for testing contained the DHEA they claimed and met other quality criteria — although they differed significantly in dose and price. ConsumerLab.com also found evidence that DHEA may help improve mood and, in older men and women, sexual function and the appearance of the skin, but these findings are based on preliminary studies and there are potential risks with taking DHEA. Sales of DHEA have been growing steadily in the U.S., increasing from $56 million in 2010 to $79 million in 2014, according to Nutrition Business Journal.

ConsumerLab.com's recent findings and recommendations are available online in its new DHEA Supplements Review, which includes results and quality ratings for five products selected by ConsumerLab.com and five others which passed the same tests in ConsumerLab.com's voluntary Quality Certification Program. The report also explains the evidence for/against DHEA, dosage, potential side effects and safety issues -- including potential drug interactions of DHEA.

Products evaluated in ConsumerLab.com's new report are AST Sports Science Micronized DHEA, Country Life DHEA, Douglas Laboratories DHEA, Finest Nutrition (Walgreens) DHEA, GNC DHEA, Life Extension DHEA, Nature's Bounty DHEA, NutriCology DHEA 25, Puritan's Pride DHEA, Spring Valley (Walmart) DHEA, Vitacost DHEA and Vitamin World DHEA.
