Omega-3 Supplements for Dogs and Cats Recalled Due to Potential for Vitamin A Toxicity

On March 9, 2023, Stratford Care USA issued a recall of 62 brands of omega-3 supplements for dogs and cats due to potentially elevated levels of vitamin A. The recall was initiated following a report from a consumer that their dog exhibited symptoms of vitamin A toxicity after consuming one of the affected supplements.

Symptoms of vitamin A toxicity in dogs and cats may include malaise, anorexia, nausea, peeling skin, weakness, tremors, convulsions, paralysis, or death.

The recalled supplements (see product photos) were sold under various brand names (listed below) and distributed nationwide to veterinary clinics, distribution centers, retail stores, and sold on websites including Amazon and Chewy. They are packaged in  white plastic containers containing 60 soft gels and are marked with the following lot numbers and expiration dates:

  • Lot 31133 EXP 04/13/23
  • Lot 30837 EXP 10/26/22

Pet owners who purchased one of the recalled products should stop use immediately and throw it away in a container inaccessible to animals, including wildlife.
