Umary Joint Pain Supplements Recalled

On May 21, 2025, UMARY USA recalled all lots of Unavy Ácido HIALURÓNICO (30 caplets/850 mg) and Umovy Ácido HIALURÓNICO (30 caplets/850 mg). FDA laboratory analysis confirmed that these supplements contain diclofenac, dexamethasone and omeprazole, drugs that are not permitted to be sold as ingredients in dietary supplements.

See ConsumerLab’s Review of Joint Health Supplements for tests of related products, and CL’s article about supplements promoted to help with arthritis.

Diclofenac is a prescription non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that can cause serious cardiovascular events such as heart attack or stroke, as well as bleeding, ulceration, and fatal tears of the stomach and intestines. When interacting with other medications, diclofenac can significantly increase the risk for adverse events. Taking multiple products containing NSAIDS increases these risks.

Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (also known as PPI) and is used for stomach acid disorders. PPI medications may cause skin reactions, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, and headache. Omeprazole should not be taken with certain medications as it may hide potential stomach issues including erosions, ulcers, or stomach cancer.

Dexamethasone is a prescription corticosteroid drug that has the potential to cause severe and serious adverse events including adrenal suppression, a disorder in which the adrenal glands do not produce enough hormones, and other adverse events, which can lead to death. Depending on the dose, these adverse events may be severe and even life threatening. Sudden discontinuation of dexamethasone can also cause potentially dangerous withdrawal symptoms.

Unavy Ácido HIALURÓNICO (30 caplets/850 mg) and Umovy Ácido HIALURÓNICO (30 caplets/850 mg), supplements are promoted to treat joint pain and other conditions. The recalled supplements (see product photos) were sold nationwide through the company’s website. Unavy Ácido HIALURÓNICO is packaged in a white plastic container with a black background label, and white and yellow writing on it. The bottle has 30 caplets/ 850 mg. Umovy Ácido HIALURÓNICO is packaged in a black plastic bottle with a black label with white and blue lettering on the label. The bottle has 30 caplets/ 850mg.

Consumers who have these supplements should stop using them and return them to the place of purchase. According to the recall notice, UMARY USA is notifying its distributors and customers by press release and email and is arranging for the return of all recalled products.

Consumers should also contact their healthcare provider if they have experienced any problems related to taking these drug products. Consumers and or healthcare providers are advised to report any adverse reactions to the FDA’s MedWatch Voluntary Reporting Program by fax, mail, or online.

The presence of diclofenac in Umary supplements was reported in Canada in April 2024, and in July 2024, Umary Hyaluronic Acid capsules were recalled by U.S. retailer SoloVital.com after FDA testing found them to contain diclofenac and omeprazole.
