Cinnamon Recalled Due to Lead Contamination

On September 26, 2025, SLR Food Distribution recalled Wise Wife ground cinnamon powder because FDA testing found it to be contaminated with elevated levels of lead.

(For tests of  related products, see ConsumerLab’s Cinnamon Supplements and Spices Review, which includes our Top Picks among ground cinnamon spices.)

Exposure to lead, even at low levels, is associated with neurological impairment, and in children, learning disabilities, and lower IQ scores. Lead can accumulate in the body over time. Symptoms of lead toxicity include abdominal pain, headache, changes in blood pressure, dizziness, and kidney and brain damage.

Recalled Wise Wife ground cinnamon powder (see product photos) is packaged in a 1.76 oz (50g) clear plastic jar with a black lid. It can be identified by the UPC 0 688474 302853, which is printed on the back label. It was distributed to retailers in New Jersey, New York, Florida, Maryland, Minnesota, Oklahoma, and Ohio between February 15, 2024, and June 28, 2025.

Consumers who have purchased this product should return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
