More Ground Cinnamon Recalled Due to Lead

On October 30, 2025, the FDA updated its public health alert on ground cinnamon to include two additional products found to contain elevated levels of lead: DEVI Cinnamon Powder and BaiLiFeng Dried Cinnamon Powder. Consumers are advised not to consume these products and to discard them immediately.

Exposure to lead, even at low levels, can cause neurological impairment. In children, this may lead to learning disabilities, behavioral problems, and reduced IQ. Adults may experience abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, changes in blood pressure, or kidney and liver dysfunction. Chronic exposure has been linked to kidney and bone damage.

Below are details about the two newly added products:

  • DEVI Cinnamon Powder (Homeneeds, Inc.) was found to contain 2.92 mcg of lead per gram of cinnamon powder (equivalent to 5.8 mcg of lead per teaspoon). It was old at Apna Bazar locations in Washington State from May 15 to October 21, 2025, and can be identified by UPC code 6 09595 11904 5 and Batch No 2502315. Homeneeds issued a recall of this cinnamon on October 27, 2025.
  • BaiLiFeng Dried Cinnamon Powder (Good Way Trading Group, Inc.) was found to contain 10.7 mcg/g of lead (equivalent to about 21.4 micrograms per teaspoon. Retail locations where this product was sold have not yet posted. It can be identified by UPC code 4 897055 799401 and a “Best by” date of 11/12/2026.

Consumers who may have purchased these items should throw them away and consult with a healthcare provider if concerned about possible lead exposure, especially for children and pregnant individuals.
