Thyroid Tablets Recalled
On August 21, 2026, Vitruvias Therapeutics, Inc. recalled one lot of Thyroid Tablets, USP 30 mg because testing confirmed the product may be superpotent (i.e., may contain a higher dose than indicated on the label).
Thyroid Tablets, USP is a natural thyroid medication derived from porcine thyroid glands and contains levothyroxine and liothyronine. It is used to treat hypothyroidism, or underactive thyroid.
The recall was announced weeks after a large recall of levothyroxine tablets distributed by Major Pharmaceuticals that were found to be subpotent.

Taking superpotent thyroid tablets can cause hyperthyroidism, or overactive thyroid, with symptoms such as weight loss, heat intolerance, fatigue, nervousness, muscle weakness, high blood pressure, chest pain, rapid heart rate, or heart rhythm disturbances. Elderly people, pregnant women, and infants may be at greater risk, especially with prolonged use. Excess thyroid hormone in elderly people has been associated with adverse cardiac outcomes, overtreatment during pregnancy has been associated with premature delivery and low birth weight, and overtreatment in infants may negatively affect growth and development.
Recalled Vitruvias Therapeutics Thyroid Tablets, USP (see product label photo) were distributed nationwide in the U.S. to Vitruvias Therapeutics’ direct accounts from January 31, 2025 to September 30, 2025, and can be identified as follows:

Patients who are currently taking the recalled tablets should not stop taking the medication without first contacting their healthcare provider for guidance or a replacement prescription.
