Yerba Prima Great Plains Bentonite + Herbal Detox Capsules Recalled
On June 10th, 2025, Yerba Prima Inc recalled 4,985 bottles of Great Plains Bentonite & Herbal Detox Capsules due to potential contamination with Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a common bacterium found in wet environments like water and soil that can cause infections in various body parts, including skin, blood, or lungs, with common symptoms such as fever, fatigue, pain, and inflammation depending on the infection's location. This bacterium can cause infection in people who are immunocompromised, and rarely, in infants.
Bentonite is a type of clay which is commonly promoted for both topical and oral use for "detoxification," and treating a variety of conditions. (See ConsumerLab’s article about detox supplements.)
Recalled Great Plains Bentonite & Herbal Detox Capsules (60 capsules per bottle) are packaged in an amber bottle with a white plastic cap. They were distributed in AZ, CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KY, MD, MO, NC, NH, NV, NY, OH, PA, TX, VA, and WA. They can further be identified by the following:
- Product name: Great Plains Bentonite + Herbal Detox Capsules (60 capsules) Lot number: # 05051
- Barcode: Case GTIN code:100 46352 00518 5. Retail package UPC code: 0 46352 00518 8
- Best by date: February 2028
