I take melatonin to help me fall asleep. Are there any drugs that interact with melatonin that I should be aware of ?

Does ashwaganda interact with melatonin? I've read Ashwaganda is not to be taken with sedatives like Ativan but am unsure if that applies to melatonin as well?

Do the cautions on melatonin supplements apply to melatonin from natural sources as well, such as Tart Cherry Juice?

Probably not, Ellen, as the amount of melatonin in tart cherry is very small. Roughly speaking, a serving would provide only one-tenth of a normal "low" dose of melatonin. According to RxList: Warfarin oral increases effects of melatonin oral by the risk of side effects and cause bleeding or bruising. Melatonin reduces blood clotting.

This is interesting and probably explains why I get nose bleeds with regular use of Melatonin. I made the connection and stopped taking it regularly because over time I only had to up the Melatonin dosage to be effective. Not worth the side effect, though, so I stopped taking it altogether and look for a supplement that contains little or none and only take it periodically, if necessary.
