Our Members Asked:
Which vitamins and supplements are good for acne, and are there any that make it worse?

Answer:
Acne means there is inflammation around blocked pores of the skin. This may explain why supplements with an anti-inflammatory effect may lead to clearer skin, while those that stimulate inflammation may make things worse.

Also, find out if topicals that contain tea tree oil, witch hazel, green tea, zinc, or vitamin B-12 are beneficial for acne.

November 27, 2023I'd be curious to know if DIM (Diindolylmethane) has been scientifically proven to reduce acne in women. I started taking 100mg of DIM daily years ago on the recommendation of an aesthetician and I saw a drastic reduction of my facial acne, though the supplement seems to have lost some of its potency over the years. I've considered taking more (maybe 100mg twice a day?) to see if it makes a difference but I'm worried that a higher dose might be harmful.
We've added information about DIM for acne in the following section of our article: https://www.consumerlab.com/answers/vitamins-and-supplements-for-acne/acne/#dim
